Birthday food-ing

It was my birthday this past weekend and the biggest present of all was food! LOTS of food! Just like my NY adventures, we went around trying out different places.  So I guess this is my birthday food tour!  I hit up a lot of comfort food spots and also, several spots using my groupon coupons!

Ting Wong (Chinatown, PA)

Another place for comfort food at a great place! this time i got the fish fillet in corn sauce over rice (someone’s picture and recipe)!  A dish usually for little kids.  I’m young at heart, what can I say 🙂

Buddhakan (AC)

Everything was fabulous at Buddhakan! Love love LOVED the lamb chops, absolutely cooked to perfection.

Cafe Roma (AC)

I love mini cakes!  The fruit tart was delicious!

Moshulu (Philadelphia)

Thanks to Groupon, another amazing meal I probably won’t forget! Dinner on a boat! and probably it’s because I don’t order duck often so I remember every time I’ve gotten duck!

Fuji Mountain (Philadelphia)

One of my default favorites — spicy tuna with crunch… and in any combination of that! sooo good! Then ended the meal with some light green tea ice cream to smooth out the taste buds. 🙂

recent discoveries of the old

I’m one of those coffee addicts and no doubt spend more money on caffeinated drinks than I really should.  However, I don’t know where I’ve been all this time, I was introduced to this greentea frappacino at one of the ubiquitous Starbucks today!  It is so refreshing on a summer day.  Nice and cooling but not too heavy or filling.  Definitely one of the awesomest things I’ve come across in a while thanks to a friend.  🙂  I hope the summer won’t end, so I can continue getting this! 😀

In other news, my first time making Omu-rice today! I was first reminded of the recipe from a youtube clip.  God I love youtube cooking inspirations.  It is a tomato sauce fried rice wrapped inside a layer of egg (as you can see).  It’s a very appetizing and fun recipe because you get to decorate/draw with ketchup! lol Unfortunately, I burned the egg a little… lack of skills.  But no worries! Will get better with practice 🙂 I also need to perfect the appearance a little too… 😛

Those of you by the philly area, I highly recommend going to Mad Mex located in University City.  I love all things fried….. aaand comfort food.  Not to mention, they brought back the half-off deal on food after 11pm!!!!!! 😀 How. Glorious. Is. That?! That equals $5 dollar burrito, $4 dollar wings and $3 dollar taquitos!  I feasted so many times during the college years on a budget at this place.  It was great returning to it last night getting some satisfying down-to-earth food.  P.S. they got GREAT waffle fries!

While i’m at it, I just want to mention.. I can’t get enough of my spring rolls! absolutely love taro! It’s so delicious! I encourage people try to make their own cause it’s fun, easy, and soooo delectably delightful!  I forgot to mention this in the last post.  My mom made her own dipping sauce.  We used vinegar as base, minced garlic, and mix with a hint of fish sauce.  It compliments the taro spring roll so well 🙂

new york food tour 1

pick some booger or w/e

drink and eat

inevitable stage

This cartoon is cute, right? I think it explaines my daily routine perfectly when I was in nyc.  All i did was pull some silly stunts, eat and drink, and poop it all back out! It’s a perpetual cycle LOL “gross….” I know! but I’m still amused. 😛

Anywayz, in the past couple of weeks, I’ve been going in and out of NYC.  You probably have an idea of what I spent most of my time doing… Eat.  NOM NOM NOM NOM~  I feel so fortunate to be able to have a taste of the city each time.  Now I feel like I have the duty to share my experience with the woOORrld, which brought about “NYC food tour 2“, my first post. Quite frankly, the major stimulus for starting this blog is because I really needed a place to write down all the places I went to before I forget!  So now catching up with what’s going on.  Part 2 is already up, now comes part 1.  This list is definitely not as long, it’s a little less… diverse? but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t expensive lol and I assure you it was just as adventurous as part 2.  Again, for now they are linked to my yelp page with my reviews.  Maybe more on this later.
