How to make lychee soju?

I see people google this question all the time~ so i’ll help answer it real nice and easy..

ingredients:
– 1 can of lychee (at any Asian supermarket)
– 1 bottle of soju

instructions:
Open the can of lychee and pour the whole can into the blender. Puree it until it turns into juice. Then by 1:1 ratio, mix the lychee juice with the soju. That’s it! You can adjust the amount of juice depending on taste. So far I enjoy 50% lychee juice and 50% soju 🙂

Ps. lychee juice with malibu is delicious too!

Lychee Soju

so I was playing around on wordpress, typing in random topics to see what other people might say about it? Well, I put in “lychee soju” and my gosh! There is nothing there! I am so surprised.  Maybe I’m spelling it wrong or searching it in the wrong place… Either way, I decided to add my own opinion into the topic umbrella.

ONE: what is lychee soju?

Soju is the Korean style rice wine.  Lychee is a fruit often found in East Asia like China and South East Asia like N. Vietnam and Cambodia (according to Wiki).  So when you put the two together: lychee + soju = lychee flavored soju.

TWO: What’s so special about it?

It is DELICIOUS!  I’ve tried a couple flavors like yogurt, watermelon, pear, and melon, but nothing can compare to the smoothness and balance of the lychee blend.

THREE: Where can I get this?

I have only come across it when I was in Nyc’s Ktown (32nd street between Broadway and 5th ave).  I want to say flavored soju is an American thing, but I’m not sure.

FOUR: Ktown has many restaurants and bars, how do I pick?

This is strictly for lychee soju… my choice would be 3rd Floor Cafe (32nd street and 5th ave).  Simple reason: the most alcohol content for the money you pay for.  $38 dollars include a full bottle of soju in the mix.  (the price might have increased… )

I believe most places in Ktown have lychee soju and I’ve tried a couple of them.  Here’s the breakdown assuming they all have the same or similar volume:

Mono mono – (1) omg it was SO pricey, for their biggest bottle, it is $45!!! (2) and for $45 dollars, lack of soju content (3) cash only, I never have more than 20 bucks on me so that’s not going to work

**Note: i just checked yelp and it says its closed? I’m not sure what’s going on

Players – (1) coolest bottle ever – it’s like a big water bottle but with lychee stuffed in it (2) $30 to 35, I forget (3) once again, weak sauce, for that money and no alcohol? no thanks

Ktown (in the basement) – (1) about $20, there is a happy hour special I believe BUT they serve a smaller bottle… so in reality, it really isn’t cheaper…

Bonchon – (1) $25 to $30, I forget (2) the weakest of them all… it was literally like juice, totally not worth it

*Pocha – pocha isn’t known for lychee soju but instead, it has the watermelon soju served on a half watermelon ($28) By itself, it is weaker than juice.  However, most people like to get a separate bottle of soju (avg $12) and mix that in the watermelon.  Pricey, but not a bad idea, I give it +1 point for awesome presentation.

So yep, that’s my story for today.  I wish I have more pictures.. but nope… I’ll take more pictures next time haha.
